Mariners' Soccer had an eventful day against the Solano College Falcons on Tuesday. Solano scored twice in the first half and unloaded with five second half goals to blow open the match for a 7-0 final score. Marin had several excellent chances in the first half, but could not find the final touch to get on the scoreboard.

It was an even match for the first ten minutes until the Falcons found the net for the first time. A shot at the top of the 18-yard box by Grace Lee went from right to left past Mariners' keeper Vanessa Miller to give the visitors a 1-0 lead. They doubled their advantage 15 minutes later as Isabel Olmedo took a pass from Jaylynn DelRosario who shot right at Miller. The ball deflected of the Marin keeper and into the net for a 2-0 Solano lead.

Many teams might have crumbled at that point, but not Marin. The mariners dominated the final 20 minutes of the first half Deidre Hyde was impressive as a distributor in the center of the midfield. She fed Thalia Loppies for a pair of superb chances that were saved by the Solano keeper Kirstyn Gottschall. Hyde found Jurany Pohl down the left flank, but her final touch was a tad heavy and deflected past the goal. Marin went to the break trailing, but full of optimism over their recent run of play.

Unfortunately, that optimism was short lived as Solano blitzed the Mariners for three goals in the first 15 minutes of the second half. Solano added two more before the second half was over as the Mariners fell by a final tally of 7-0.

The score line did not bely the competitiveness of the first half as it easily could have been 1-1 after the first 45 minutes of play. Marin did show signs of fatigue in the second half that led to mental mistakes and allowed good scoring chances for the opposition.

DelRosario had a goal and three assists for Solano while Olmedo had two goals and an assist on the afternoon.

For the Mariners Loppies and Hyde each had two shots on goal and Steffanie Flores narrowly missed a powerful shot in the second half.

The loss dropped the Mariners record to 2-5-1 and 1-1 in Bay Valley Conference play.

Marin will take a few days to dust themselves off before traveling to face the Los Medanos Mustangs on Friday, October 5.
