College of Marin Soccer Falls To Los Medanos 2-0

The Mariners and the Mustangs matched up for a defensive struggle on Friday afternoon its Pittsburg. The result was a hard fought 2-0 win for Los Medanos and a frustrating loss for the Mariners. A scoreless draw looked to be the final result, but the final third of the match went the Mustangs way as the Mariners lost their second straight match in Bay Valley Conference competition. Vanessa Miller competed admirably in goal but it was not enough for Marin.

Both Marin and Los Medanos were without several key players. The Mustangs were missing for starters and the Mariners three of their own, including leading goal scorer Deidre Hyde. Los Medanos controlled the ball for much of the first half, but Marin's defense held strong as the Mustangs managed just three shots on goal, all handled capably by Miller.

Both teams entered halftime with a chance to grab the points, but it was the home Mustangs who took the initiative in the 58th minute. An errant clearance fell at the feet of Los Medanos' Brianna Olmedo who beat Miller at the post for a 1-0 lead. The Mustangs doubled their advantage 12 minutes later as Sydney Vueve intercepted a goal kick and found the net for a 2-0 lead.

Marin battled as Jurany Pohl had a solid opportunity but it went wide and Marin fell by a final score of 2-0. Miller was very good in goal with six saves on eight shots on goal.

It has been feast or famine for the Mariners goal scorers this year. They are 2-0-1 in games where they've scored two or more goals and 0-6-0 when they've scored one or fewer.

The Mariners look to put multiple goals up on the scoreboard against Yuba College on November 9th as Marin travels to Marysville to face the 49ers. Kickoff is scheduled for 4pm.
