College of Marin Soccer Draws With Yuba 1-1

Mariners' Soccer broke their two match losing streak with a point earning effort at Yuba with a 1-1 draw. The Mariners led in the first half, before Yuba battled back to tie in the second stanza. Despite missing several starters, the Mariners looked to be the better side for much of the match and showed good growth as a group.

After being held scoreless their previous two matches, Marin got on the board early on in Marysville.  The Mariners earned a corner in the 19th minute. Steffanie Flores took the kick which curved inward and found the foot of Thalia Loppies. She fired a shot high that hit the crossbar. In the commotion, the ball fell to Elise Perez who side footed it into the net for a 1-0 Mariners' lead.

The teams went to the locker room with the same 1-0 score line but that changed early in the second half. In the 50th minute Alizabeth Adan took a pass at the top of the 18-yard box and found a diagonally charging Lissette Morales cut through on the wing. Morales took the past in stride and from 12 yards out beat Marin keeper Vanessa Miller to tie the match up at 1-1.

Yuba continued to charge forward but were thwarted several times in the Marin defensive third by Alexandria Mencareli. Marin had a chance late, but could not convert and were forced to settle for the 1-1 draw.

Perez notched her first goal of the campaign and second in her career. Miller made five saves in goal for the Mariners

The tie pushed Marin into fourth place in the Bay Valley Conference, close behind Yuba and trailing undefeated Solano and Los Medanos. College of Marin is 2-6-2 overall and 1-2-1 in conference play.

Next up for Marin is a home date with Merritt College on Friday, October 12th at 4pm.
