Mariners on Cloud Nine At Mendocino

College of Marin Soccer enjoyed a spectacular afternoon in Ukiah as they defeated the Golden Eagles of Mendocino College 9-0. Six different Mariners scored at least one goal as the team scored early and often to put the game away early.

Jurany Pohl opened the scoring barrage in the fourth minute after receiving a cross from Vanessa Miller. Pohl controlled the ball in the box and finished past the keeper. Three minutes later Elise Perez doubled the Mariners' advantage in a one on one opportunity with the Mendocino keeper. Elise was clean in on goal and chipped the keeper for a 2-0 lead. Gladis Polanco made it three inside 10 minutes, taking a cross from Cheyanne Gillespie and beating the keeper with a shot to the lower left corner of the goal.

The Mariners were not done scoring before the halftime whistle.

Elise Perez chipped the ball into Gillespie in the box. Cheyanne trapped the pass and shot right corner to beat the keeper for Marin's 4th goal in the 17th minute of play. After a lull in scoring, Polanco found the back of the net for a second time in the 40th minute. A one on one chance for Polanco deflected off the keeper and back to Polanco who deflected it past the goalie for the score. Marin's sixth of the game came off the foot of Miller who beat the keeper low and left in the 42nd minute.

The Mariners cooled off a tad in the second half as they were limited to just three goals.

Disa Johansson scored in the 47th minute with a low shot past the keeper for Marin's seventh goal. Johansson fed Jurany Pohl for Marin's eighth goal in the 55th minute. Johansson was involved again in Marin's final goal as she took the ball clear of the defense and beat the keeper for her second of the day.

Johannson had a pair of goals and an assist on the day, while Pohl and Polanco each scored a brace. Perez, Miller and Gillespie each scored and assisted on a goal.

The Mariners scoring binge nearly doubled their team total for the season. They now have 20 goals through 12 games of competition. The win vaulted Marin into a tie for third place with Yuba College. Marin is 3-2-1 in conference play and 4-6-2 overall.

The Mariners have another chance to feast on the Mendocino defense on Tuesday, October 23rd at 4pm in Kentfield.
