Soccer’s Elise Perez is October Co-Mariner of the Month

Sophomore Woman’s Soccer player Elise Perez was named as Co-Mariner of the Month for October. She led the Mariners to a 5-2-1 record in October and scored a team high seven goals in the process.

The month did not begin so well for the Sophomore midfielder and her squad as they suffered back to back losses shutout to Solano and Los Medanos in the first week of October but they got on track shortly after.

Perez jumpstarted the Mariners’ offense in their third match of the month at Yuba College on October 9th. Perez pounced on a loose ball it the 18-yard box and beat the opposing keeper to give her team the lead. While the Mariners ultimately drew 1-0, Perez was the spark for Marin. She scored early on in her team’s next match against Merritt College. Perez headed home a corner inside a minute to put Marin up 1-0 in the match they would eventually win 2-0.

Perez’s goal fest had merely just begun as she scored in her third consecutive match on October 16th against Mendocino College. The Mariners throttled the Eagles 9-0 and Perez scored in the ninth minute to put Marin up 2-0. That match was merely a warmup for her next encounter with the Eagles. A week later Perez had a hat trick in the Mariners 11-0 victory. She scored in the 26th, 27th and 50th minutes. She even played in goal that game, recording a save in 25 minutes.

She was held scoreless in her team’s next match, a victory over Napa 1-0, but she was not done scoring in October.

The final match of the month was at Solano College on October 30th.  She displayed tremendous individual skill, taking the ball at midfield and beating several defenders to take the ball in on goal. Her first two shots were saved by the keeper. Each time it rebounded back to Perez for another opportunity. Her third chance was her final one as she scored to give her team a 1-0 lead. Marin went on to notch a tremendous victory over Solano 2-1 on that afternoon.

In October Perez scored seven goals and had an assist. She had 14 shots on goal and recorded one game winning goal as well.

Perez has been the heart of the midfield for both of her years on the team. Her drive and determination are a testament to the Mariners.
