Women’s Soccer Drops Home Match To Chabot 3-0

College of Marin Women's Soccer lost to the Chabot College Gladiators on Tuesday in Kentfield. The two teams were evenly matched throughout but the visitors took advantage of their opportunities while the Mariners failed to do so.

The team's played to scoreless first half and combined for just five total shots, three to Chabot and two for Marin. Sophia-Isabel Maso had a solid chance in the first half, but her shot went straight to the Chabot keeper, Abigail Burnell, for the save.

The game took on a different feel in the second half as Chabot awoke, and Marin went to sleep. The Gladiators peppered the Marin goal to the tune of 16 shots in the second half. Mariners' goalie Charlotte Sklar did her best to keep the attackers at bay, but the visitors did manage to put three goals in the back of the net in the second half. The Mariners were fatigued in the latter stages of the match and could not put up a sufficient resistance to Chabot's onslaught.

The 3-0 loss was the Mariners' third in as many matches.

There were some positives as the front three of Maso, Juliana Oliveria Cortinhas and Yuliana Velazquez Signor showed their budding chemistry with several excellent movements in the final third. They could not put the ball in the net as Marin was held to a clean sheet.

Sklar made eight saves on the day and has 14 in the young season.

Marin hosts the Cosumnes River College Hawks on Friday at 4pm as they seek their first result of the 2019 season.
