Mariners Women’s Soccer Downed by Cosumnes River 9-0

The College of Marin Women's Soccer Team endured a brutal grind to start the 2019 season. Their five game non-conference schedule continued on Friday with a match against the Cosumnes River Hawks. In sweltering heat the Mariners battled but were out done by the superior fitness of the visitors from Sacramento in a 9-0 defeat.

The Hawks scored early and often and held a 2-0 lead inside five minutes of competition. They led 4-0 after 16 minutes and pushed the score to 7-0 at halftime.  Marin made adjustments, and Cosumnes River made substitutions but in the end it was a 9-0 score as the Hawks seized victory.

The Mariners dealt with injuries and exhaustion in the heat but those that remained on the field held their own. They dropped their fourth consecutive match, and failed to score for the second straight match.

They look to get on the winning side of the ledger with a home match against the Skyline College Trojans at 3pm on Tuesday, September 17th.
