Mariners Women’s Soccer Throttled By Merritt 8-0

College of Marin Women's Soccer did not have a stellar start to their BVC road campaign. The Mariners visited the Merritt College Thunderbirds on Tuesday and did not have an answer for the home team's attack. Marin allowed five first half goals in route to an 8-0 road defeat.

The Thunderbirds struck early and struck often. They scored inside the first minute of play, doubled their lead in the 14th minute and lead 3-0 before the first 30 minutes of the match concluded. Rojanae Traylor scored early and added goals in the 42nd and 44th minutes to complete a hat trick prior to the halftime whistle. Marin could do little on the offensive end and were held to a clean sheet in the first half.

The second half played out like the first, Marin could not find a defensive answer for Merritt's attack and were left searching for answers. Merritt scored in the 53rd, 64th and 71st minutes to take a stranglehold on the match.

Marin did not give up despite being reduced to 10 players at various points in the match. Unfortunately, even the full squad could not halt the Thunderbirds.

The final score of 8-0 was indicative of the home team's dominance.

The loss evened the Mariners' record in BVC play at 1-1. Next up for Marin is a home date against Yuba College on Friday, October 4th. Kickoff is scheduled for 4pm.
