Women's Soccer Shuts Out Siskiyous

College of Marin Women’s Soccer took the field against the visiting College of the Siskiyous Eagles, looking to get back on the winning side after a difficult last match. The Mariners rebounded and came away with a win against the Eagles behind a total team performance.

The first half began with both teams trading early opportunities to score. Once they settled in, the Mariners took control of the game, putting eight shots on the Siskiyous goal. Sophomore Yuliana Velazquez opened the scoring after a move into the front line, scoring a screamer into the top of the goal off of an Emily Berganza assist. A 1-0 halftime lead would have to do for the Mariners, as the Eagles goalkeeper made some impressive saves.

In the second half, the Mariners continued their aggressive play, firing another nine shots on goal. Yuliana Velazquez would add her second goal of the day to give the Mariners some breathing room. It took a total team defensive effort as the Eagles did not relent, but at the final whistle the score remained 2-0. Goalkeeper Laura Gravelle recorded 3 saves on the way to her first collegiate clean sheet.

The Mariners take a 2-1 record into the weekend and look to open conference play late next week against Napa Valley College.
