COM Volleyball Shows Resolve In Loss to Yuba

Despite their record, the College of Marin Volleyball team is on the rise. Tasked with a difficult non-conference schedule, the Mariners have had some time to build team chemistry. Against Yuba College of Wednesday, they showed the heart and tenacity that can make them a successful team in the Bay Valley Conference.

In the first set against Yuba College, the Mariners showed their resolve. After falling behind early, a string of strong team play put the Mariners ahead 15-13. Yuba rallied to a take a 20-15 lead before COM pulled even. A pair of questionable decisions by the officials gave Yuba the result 25-23, however the Mariners played one of their best stretches of the season. COM hit .462 in the opening set with 15 kills from 26 total attacks and only three errors. Yuba went on to win the match in three sets, but the Mariners never gave up, rallied from a 25-12 second set loss to compete in the final set 25-17.

On the match, Head Coach Lindsay Bacigalupi said “We played competitively and just let them have a few runs of points that caused the momentum to shift. It was a well fought match, we were inconsistent at times that ultimately during the match. We had great serve receive in our first set, but it needs to be there for the entire match.”

Standout performances for College of Marin included Tate Dobbins who had 11 digs and seven kills, Kailey Walker with six kills and seven digs and Jenny Huezo who had 4 kills and 15 assists.

College of Marin Travels to Alameda College on Friday, September 25th.
