Mariners Start Strong but Fall to Solano College 3-1

The College of Marin Women's Volleyball team is beginning to find their stride in the 2015 season, although it hit a bit of a speed bump at Solano College on Wednesday. After a great first set showing, the team was unable to maintain their momentum and fell in four sets.

The Mariners fell behind 12-7 in the first set before rallying back to tie at 12-12. A string of Solano errors gave the Mariners a 17-13 lead. Solano fought back to bring the score with 2 at 22-20 in favor or Marin. Marin had a pair of potential set points ruled in favor of Solano tying the score at 24-24. After a Solano error, Kailey Walker aced Solano to give the Mariners the 26-24 win in the first set.

The second set started off even with the teams tied at 11-11 before sloppy play by Marin gave Solano a 19-12 advantage. The Mariners battled back a bit but fell 25-16 to Solano. Solano jumped out to a 17-12 before a bat interrupted play for a five minute span. Solano finished off the third set quickly with a 25-13 score. Solano finished the match with a 25-11 four set win.

Tate Dobbins led the Mariners with 14 kills from 34 total attacks. Kailey Walker had her usual stat filling match with six kills, 3 aces and 10 digs. Jenny Huezo recorded a double double with 22 assists and 12 digs.

The Mariners next match is against Mendocino College at home on Friday, October 16th
