Com Volleyball’s Winning Streak Halted At Yuba College

Last time the Mariners and 49ers met, the home team took the match in five brutal sets. On Wednesday Marin's four match winning streak ended at Yuba as the Mariners took the first set, but fell in the final three to drop the match 3-1. Salomi Galodamu was a force all over the court for the Mariners as she racked up 20 points and fell just one dig short of a double double.

A hard fought first set went to Marin 25-21 as the home team was inefficient on the attack recording just eight kills and six errors. After the Mariners drew first blood, the pendulum swung and it was Marin that made more errors while Yuba cleaned up their act. Yuba had 11 kills and just five errors in the second as the up ended Marin 25-20 to tie the match at 1-1.

The second set caused a huge swing in momentum as the Mariners were unable to keep up afterwards. Yuba took the third set 25-13 to take a commanding lead. Instead of dropping off, the Mariners stepped up and nearly stole the fourth set from Yuba, but fell a few points short and lost 25-20.

Galodamu filled up the score sheet for the Mariners with 15 kills, three aces, nine digs and a pair of solo blocks. Bella De Souza added eight kills and a pair of digs. Alejandra Leon had six kills and twelve digs. Sarah Harris had 32 assists, four digs, a block and two kills while Emma Harris had six aces, three assists and a team leading 13 digs.

"We battled tonight and it is always great playing tough competition," said Coach Lisa Gera, "We had our opportunities and didn't take care of the little things."

The Mariners have a chance to make amends on Friday, October 27th as they host Napa Valley College at 6:00PM.
