Mariners Notch First Home Victory Over San Jose City College 3-0

College of Marin Volleyball displayed their dominance over the Jaguars of San Jose City College on Wednesday. The Mariners swept through SJCC with set scores of 25-11, 25-15 and 25-10. They played excellent fundamental volleyball with limited errors and solid team play all around.

Marin jumped out to an early first set lead and never looked back. They lead 10-4 early on and extended that to 16-7 before the visitors were forced to call a timeout. The Mariners extended their margin further before taking the first set 25-11.

The second set was slightly more competitive as Marin lead by just three at 10-7, and five at 15-10. They went on a very nice run to lead 21-11 before finishing it off 25-15. The third was much in the same as the Mariners led 16-7 before sealing the set and the match 25-10.

Offensive contributions abound for the Mariners who were led by sophomore Salomi Galodamu and her 11 kills on the evening. She hit .714 with just one error in 14 attacks and added three aces and two digs on the match. Alejandra Leon had 10 points from six kills and four aces. Leon tied for the team lead with eight digs. Magnolia Johnson had eight digs of her own along with an assist from the libero position.

Hellen Sigaran had an all-around game with a kill, a dig and a match high six aces. The Mariners had 16 aces as a team, eclipsing the team's 15 through the first four matches of the season.

College of Marin limited their mistakes with just six hitting and nine serving errors. They passed 29 assists, led by Sarah Harris' 26 and had 32 kills on 77 attempts for a robust .338 kill percentage.

Coach Lisa Gera was very pleased with her team "It was a great team effort tonight! We had great production out of our middle blockers Salomi Galodamu and Ashley Chanthongthip."

Marin has a day off before their final double duty day of the season. They travel to Diablo Valley College for matches against Ohlone College and the DVC Vikings.
