Mariners’ Volleyball Extends Streak To Four With Win 3-0 Over Mendocino College

College of Marin Volleyball continued their strong run of play with a home sweep of the Mendocino College Eagles on Wednesday. The Mariners rallied from a first set deficit and carried their momentum through the match for a 3-0 sweep of their opponents. Salolmi Galodamu and Alejandra Leon led the way for the Mariners with double digit scoring nights.

The first set of the match leaned towards the visitors. Marin held a slim 6-5 advantage in the early going, but the Eagles responded to tie the match at 11 before going on an 8-2 run to take a 19-13 lead. The Mendocino run prompted a timeout by Coach Lisa Gera, who rallied the troops to mount a comeback. Marin unleashed a five point run to pull within one, forcing a timeout by Mendocino. It had little effect as the Mariners scored seven of the following nine points to take a 25-21 first set victory.

Marin used their first set motivation to jump out to a 5-1 lead. After a Mendocino timeout the set remained relatively close, but Marin led 20-17 and eventually grabbed a 25-18 win. The final set was almost academic, Marin led 5-1, and 17-10 before finishing it off 25-13 for the match victory.

The Mariners' fourth straight win advanced their conference record to 3-0 and overall record to 6-5.

Galodamu led Marin with 17 points, with had 13 kills, three aces and two block assists as well as 8 digs on the day. Leon had a well balanced attack with 10 kills, an ace and 10 digs in her own right. Magnolia Johnson led the team with 11 digs and had two aces on the day. Sarah Harris did well from the setter position, with 29 aces, 10 digs, two block assists and five kills.
