Volleyball Vaults to Fourth Place With Four Set Win over Yuba

The Mariners overcame a variety of obstacles to earn a win over the Yuba College 49ers on Wednesday evening in Kentfield. Marin dressed eight players but an injury reduced them to seven mid-match. They dominated in the first set, but fell victim to self-inflicted wounds in the second. Luckily, by the end of the match the Mariners game out on top with a 3-1 win over the visiting 49ers.

Marin started out the dominate side in set one, as has become common during the 2019 season. They lit up the 49ers to the tune of 25-16 with a team kill percentage of .128.

The second set did not go as the first, the Mariners trailed 17-13 when freshman outside hitter Remy Pelzman went down with a lower body injury. She was removed from the rotation and the Mariners went on to lose the set 25-17.

They battled back in the third set and took a 15-10 lead when Pelzman was cleared to re-enter. She energized the Mariners to a 25-19 victory to take a 2-1 lead in the match. College of Marin carried their momentum through the fourth and final set with a dominating 25-11 win to take the fourth set and the match.

As a team Marin hit .139 with 43 kills and 23 errors. They racked up 13 aces and six total blocks as well.

Beatrice Heimbrodt led the Mariners with 15 total points. She played in sets 2-4 and still led the team with 13 kills. Makenzie Dugan had an impressive game with 35 assists, 11 digs, four aces, three kills and three total blocks for 10 points.

The win advanced the Mariners' record to 4-3 in the Bay Valley Conference. They sit in fourth place, three games behind the leading Solano College Falcons. The Mariners host Solano on Friday, October 18th.
