College of Marin Volleyball Drops Epic Five Set Match To Los Medanos

The Mariners did not disappoint in their first home match in over two weeks. The game originally scheduled for October 30th was postponed due to local power outages, but Monday's match certainly delivered plenty of electricity.  The Mariners and the Los Medanos Mustangs split the first four sets of the match and were tied up at 13-13 in the deciding set before the visitors willed their way to victory with the final two points of the match.

The Mariners called time in the fifth set as they trailed 10-6. They rallied to tie the game at 12-12 and again at 13-13, but a receiving error and a kill by LMC ended the match. The Mariners battled for the entire match and were the better side for much of it.

Marin opened the match with a gritty 26-24 win in set number one. They hit just .056 to LMC's .162 but the Mariners made the most of their chances. They never truly pulled away as they led 15-14 midway but grabbed the win.

Los Medanos responded with a dominant second set, as the Mariners fell 25-15. Los Medanos made just a single hitting error while the Mariners committed eight to even the match.

The third and fourth sets were eerily similar to each other. LMC took the third set 26-24 on the strength of 18 kills. Marin rallied back in the fourth to edge LMC 25-23 and force the fifth set.

All eight Mariners contributed in the match. Beatrice Heimbrodt led the way for Marin with 16.5 points on the strength of 16 kills. Remy Pelzman added nine kills and 27 digs while Lara Perry had 10 kills and a pair of blocks. Sasha Urban had an excellent showing as well with eight kills, two aces and a block assist for 10.5 points.

The loss dropped the Mariners' conference record to 5-5 while Los Medanos moved to 10-1 firmly in second place behind the Solano College Falcons.

Marin's next match is Wednesday, November 6th at 6pm as they host the Contra Costa Comets.
