Sophomore Second Baseman Marcus Chiu has had a remarkable 2017 season for the College of Marin Baseball Team. The Conference MVP led all Bay Valley players in home runs with 13 and RBIs with 41. His batting average of .359 was also fifth best of all Bay Valley Conference players.
Marcus had a remarkable season capped by an extremely impressive run from late February through mid-march. In an eight game span from February 24th through March 16th Marcus hit .514 with seven home runs and 18 RBIs. The Mariners posted a record of 6-2 in that span to jump start their Bay Valley Conference Title run.
Marcus was a run scoring machine in the team’s first round playoff win over Fresno City College. In game one Chiu reached base in all five plate appearances with a single, double, walk and two hit by pitches. He scored five of the team’s 10 runs in their 10-4 victory. In the second game he scored twice more in Marin’s 6-2 win and accounted for seven of their 16 total runs.
Marcus signed with University of Nevada in Reno last fall and will be a member of their 2018 baseball team.
