Mariners Moving on to the Next Level

Aly Alvarado – Men’s Soccer  

Aly Alvarado, a Terra Linda High School graduate has committed to Southern Oregon University. Aly was an outstanding goalkeeper for the Mariners for two seasons. Aly started 25 out of 28 games as a Mariner.  During the 2022 season, Aly recorded 66 saves, landing him in third place in the Bay Valley Conference.  

Aly earned his Associate of Arts in Liberal Arts with an emphasis in Social Science and Behavioral Sciences and ended his academic career at College of Marin with a 3.184. 

Jake Tirk – Baseball 

Jake Tirk, Northern California 2023 All-State pitcher has committed to the University of Hawai’i at Manoa. Tirk had an outstanding sophomore season. 2023 Pitcher of the Year for the Bay Valley Conference with a 5-1 win/loss record. Tirk’s best game came when the Mariners faced Mendocino College on April 13th. He pitched 8 innings, 2 earned runs, and 13 strikeouts. The Mariners concluded that game with a 9-3 victory over the Mendocino College Eagles.  

During Tirk’s time as a Mariner, he earned 170 career strikeouts with 109 this season. Tirk passed Shawn Loucks (1987-99) who previously held the record for most career strikeouts (169). 

Jake Ferguson – Baseball 

2023 Bay Valley All-Conference 2nd Team infielder from Milly Valley will be moving on to Eastern Illinois University in Charleston, Illinois to continue his athletic and academic career. Fergie’s best performance was in the 23-0 win against Contra Costa College on March 16th. He went 4for 5with a double, a home run, and 5 RBIs.  

Fergie earned his Associate in Arts, Liber Arts: Social and Behavioral Studies with a cumulative GPA of 3.36.  

Jacob Campbell – Baseball  

Campbell had an outstanding run as a Mariner. He will be transferring to Oklahoma Baptist University in Shawnee, Oklahoma. OBU baseball went 32-23 last year, losing the GAC Tournament Championship game 6-7 against Southern Arkansas University. Going into a strong program, Campbell’s talents will be quite an addition to OBU.  

Jake was selected for the 2023 Bay Valley All-Conference 2nd Team infielder. His best performance was on February 17th against Chabot College. He went 4 for 6 with 2 doubles and a home run, the Mariners secured the win in a close game, 9-8. In March, Campbell was named Co-Mariner of the Month for his outstanding efforts on the field. He earned his Associate in Arts, Liber Arts: Social and Behavioral Studies with a 3.74 cumulative GPA. 

DaRia White – Women’s Basketball  

DaRia is from Warm Springs, Oregon, and graduated from Madras High School. She averaged 5.3 PTS/G, shooting 24.6% from behind the arch, and 75% from the free throw line. DaRia’s best game this season came when the Mariners faced Shasta College. She scored 18 points on 7-11 shooting 63% FG, 4-6 from 3-point land at 66.7% adding 5 defensive rebounds. She earned her Associate of Arts degree in Psychology and will be attending the University of Saint Katherine in the fall to continue her athletic and academic career.  

Jake Verwiel – Baseball  

Jake committed to the University of San Francisco. Starting in 11 games, he has showcased his skill and determination, leading his team to numerous victories. With a remarkable pitching record of 7-1, his ability to dominate on the mound has made him an invaluable asset to the team. With 101 strikeouts in 2023, Jake's skill and precision on the mound rightfully earned him the title of the 2023 Bay Valley All-Conference First Team Pitcher. In April, Verwiel was named Co-Mariner of the Month for his outstanding efforts on the field and in the classroom. He received his Associate in Science Transfer, Business Administration Transfer with an impressive 3.95 GPA, the highest GPA amongst the 2023 Mariner graduates.  

Steven Elsner – Baseball  

Elsner will continue his baseball career at Bellevue University in Bellevue, Nebraska in the fall. Elsner was selected for the 2023 Bay Valley Conference All-Conference 2nd Team Outfielder. His best performance was on April 21st in the 17-2 win against Yuba College. Elsner went 2 for 2 with 5 RBI and 3 runs.  

The Bruins went 48-10 in their 2023 season, losing 3-5 in 11 innings in the NAIA World Series. Elsner will be a great addition to the Bruins.
