Mariners Beach Volleyball Sweeps San Mateo 5-0

College of Marin Beach Volleyball hosted the College of San Mateo Bulldogs for the second time in three weeks. Just like the first meeting, the result was the same, a 5-0 victory for the Mariners. Marin employed some different pairings, but in the end, it was all smiles as they defeated the Bulldogs in all four pairings, as the visitors did not field a fifth duo.

The ones consisted of Sarah Harris and Alejandra Leon as they delivered an excellent showing against their counterparts from San Mateo. They grabbed a narrow first set win 21-19, and followed up with a more dominant 21-14 second set for a 2-0 win.

Amber Proctor and Kirsta Rodriguez-McKee comprised the twos for the first time on Wednesday. The new pairing paid dividends as they won the first set 21-14 before dropping the second set 21-11. The pair of freshman dug deep and delivered a 15-4 third set win to clinch their match.

Magnolia Johnson and Khadeejia Marcum were the threes and defeat their opponents in three sets. They won the first set 21-15 and dropped the second 22-20. The third set was very tight, but the home team took the win 15-11 to clinch the overall match.

Another new duo of Luisa Ayala and Ashley Chanthongthip took the four spot and won in straight sets. They took the first 21-11 before winning the second 21-18.

The visitors did not bring a fifth set of beach volleyballers and so it was forfeited to the Mariners.

The win improved the Mariners record to 2-3 on the season with a match against Foothill College upcoming.
