College of Marin Beach Volleyball did their best but fell in a pair of matches on Friday in Rocklin. The Mariners visited Sierra College and fell to Feather River 5-0 before dropping a match to hosting Sierra by the same score of 5-0. It was the team's second Big 8 Conference match day, but were unable to grab a victory.
The day began with a match against the Feather River College Golden Eagles.
Marin's ones battled in the first set, but fell 21-18. Sarah Harris and Alejandra Leon did their best, but fell in the second set 21-10 and dropped the match 2-0. The twos of Amber Proctor and Kirsta Rodriguez-McKee were competitive in both of their sets, but were unable to get over the hump and were defeated 21-13 and 21-17.
A similar fate befell the threes of Khadeejia Marcum and Magnolia Johnson as they were in both of the sets but could not grab victory in a 21-17 and 21-14 loss. Luisa Ayala and Nattasia Ferrin were outmatched in a 21-9 and 21-4 loss to the fours of Feather River.A spirited effort by the fives of Ashley Chanthongthip and Mackenzie Graham was not enough in a 21-10 and 21-11 defeat to their counterparts from Feather River.
The second match of the day against the Wolverines followed a similar script which led to a 5-0 defeat.
Harris and Leon struggled to start and fell by set scores of 21-6 and 21-14 to the top team from Sierra. Proctor and Rodriguez-McKee scored in double digits but were downed 21-12 and 21-12. Johnson and Marcum suffered a similar fate by scores of 21-11 and 21-12.
The fours of Ayala and Ferrin dropped their match 21-9 and 21-11 while the final pairing was the closest with Chanthongthip and Graham falling 21-19 and 21-15.
The pair of 5-0 losses dropped the Mariners record to 3-8 overall and 0-4 in the Big 8 Conference. Next up for Marin is a pair of non-conference matches at Sierra College on Wednesday, April 10th as they face Cabrillo and West Valley Colleges.
