Mariners Volleyball Drops Beach Bout To Cabrillo, West Valley 5-0

College of Marin Beach Volleyball faced a pair of formidable opponents in a non-conference tilt on Wednesday. The Mariners traveled to Rocklin for a pair of matches against the Cabrillo College Seahawks and the West Valley College Vikings. College of Marin fought hard, but were defeated in both matches by scores of 5-0.

The Mariners opened the day against Cabrillo College and got a very good showing from the top pair of Sarah Harris and Alejandra Leon. The sophomores fought tooth and nail against the ones from Cabrillo, but fell by scores of 21-16, and 21-17. The freshman twos of Amber Proctor and Kirsta Rodriguez McKee nearly took their first set but lost 21-19 before dropping the second set 21-3.

Magnolia Johnson and Khadeejia Marcum played as the threes and reached double digits in each set but fell 21-10 and 21-13. The fourth and final pairing of Ashley Chanthongthip and Nattasia Ferrin were defeated 21-9 and 21-7. Injuries forced the Mariners to forfeit the final pairing as they lost the match 5-0.

The second match of the day was even more difficult. The Mariners faced the Coast Conference leading West Valley Vikings and were swept through 5-0.

Harris and Leon fell victim to the top team from Saragota 21-8 and 21-11. Proctor and Rodriguez-McKee had the best showing of any Mariners' pair as they fell by identical 21-12 scores to their West Valley counterparts.  Johnson and Marcum were defeated 21-7 and 21-6 while Chanthongthip and Ferrin went down 21-11 and 21-5.

The losses dropped the Mariners' record to 3-10 on the season to go along with their 0-4 record in the Big Eight Conference.

Next up for Marin are a pair of home conference matches against Delta College and College of the Redwoods on Friday, April 12th.
