Beach Volleyball’s Harris and Leon Advance To NorCal Pairs’ Finals

College of Marin Beach Volleyball continued their impressive season on Friday at the Bay Eight Conference Pairs Championships at Sierra College in Rocklin. The top two pairs from Marin competed in the individual tournament and the top pair advanced to the NorCal Pairs' Finals. Amber Proctor and Kirsta Rodriguez-McKee earned the 11th seed in the tournament while teammates Sarah Harris and Alejandra Leon were seeded 6th. The two Marin pairs even faced off to the start the competition.

It was a tight match between the 1's and 2's of Marin as Rodriguez-McKee and Proctor beat Harris and Leon 21-19 in set one. They bounced back to even the match up at 1-1 with a 21-14 second set. The final set came down to the wire but Harris and Leon edged Rodriguez-McKee and Proctor 15-13 for the victory.

Both teams continued on in the double elimination tournament as Rodriguez-McKee and Proctor faced off against the threes from Feather River. They were taken down in straight sets 21-11 and 21-13 as their tournament run ended.

Harris and Leon faced the twos from Sierra College in their next match and were defeated in straight sets 21-12 and 21-14 for their first loss. They continued on and exacted a measure of revenge against the Feather River threes. Harris and Leon played the same pair that eliminated Rodriguez-McKee and Proctor but this time it was a different result.

Harris and Leon grabbed the first set against Feather River 21-19 before falling in the second set 21-17. They did not waiver in the decisive third set with a sizeable third set victory of 15-8. The win secured them a position in the NorCal Pairs' Finals.

They fell to the Sierra threes in a one set seeding match by 21-17 but accomplished their primary goal, qualification.

Harris and Leon grabbed the eighth seed in the NorCal Pairs' Tournament which takes place on May 3rd in the familiar surroundings of Sierra College. The Mariners' pair will face off against the top team from West Valley College at 9am.
