Volleyball’s Maggie Johnson Commits To Mills College

College of Marin Volleyball player Magnolia Johnson is attending Mills College in the fall. The indoor and beach volleyball athlete decided to attend Mills and join the Cyclones for a combination of athletic and academic reasons.

“I chose Mills because when I stepped on campus it felt like home. I really wanted to stay in the Bay Area and continue playing volleyball, and Mills allowed me to do both of those things while also providing me the small, liberal arts school environment I was looking for,” said Johnson.

Johnson served as a captain for the Mariners indoor and beach teams. She was Marin’s primary libero in the fall and earned an All-Conference Honorable Mention in the Bay Valley Conference. In her sophomore season, Johnson competed in all 26 matches for the Mariners and recorded 262 total digs with an average of 2.91 digs per set.

Maggie competed on the twos’ squad for the Mariners’ Beach Volleyball Team in the spring. She paired with freshman Natasha Saccardi as the duo made a formidable pair during the abbreviated 2020 season.

Johnson certainly enjoyed her time at College of Marin and is sad to see it end, “As for my time at COM, my two years there were two of the best years of my life. I met some really amazing people, and being able to play both indoor and beach volleyball was an all-around awesome experience. I was absolutely devastated to have the beach season cut short this year, but I can’t wait to continue my career playing indoor at Mills.”

Johnson’s coach for both Indoor and Beach Volleyball Lisa Gera is sad to lose her, but wishes her well. “We are so proud of Maggie” said Gera, “We appreciate her dedication to the program, hard work, and passion for the game. She has shown so much growth both on and off the court in the last two years and we wish her all the best at Mills College.”

Maggie Johnson has served as leader for the College of Marin Volleyball program over the past two years. Her energy and enthusiasm will certainly be missed as she moves on to continue her academic and athletic careers.
