Baseball's Ryan Schalch Named 1st Team All American

College of Marin Baseball player Ryan Schalch was named to the Pacific Association All-America First Team. Sponsored by Rawlings, The American Baseball Coaches Association voted Schalch as one of the top twelve junior college players on the West Coast. The freshman third baseman and pitcher was previously named the Bay Valley Conference MVP for the 2015 season. 

Schalch had an outstanding season at the bat, as well as on the hill. The third baseman played 31 games hitting .367 in 128 at bats. He slugged at .484 clip with six doubles and three homeruns. Schalch drove in 25 runs and scored 28 for the Mariners. Defensively at third base Schalch had a .929 fielding percentage in 85 total chances.

Schalch was equally as dominant in his time on the mound, hurling 22 innings in 13 appearances. He had a record of 2-0 with six saves and an ERA of 0.82. He allowed just two runs while striking out 21 batters against just six walks.  

 College of Marin Baseball Coach Steve Berringer on Schalch's versatility "Ryan had an outstanding season and we wouldn't be as successful as a team without his contributions on the mound and offensively. Ryan ranks as one of the top two way players in College of Marin History."

Ryan's finest offensive game of the season came against Solano College on April 16th. He went three for five with a home run, three RBI and four runs scored in a 16-8 victory. 

On the mound he had several notable games including two and two third scoreless innings against Cabrillo College in the first round of the state playoffs and three a third shutout innings against City College of San Francisco, where he struck out four.
