Several COM Baseball Players Key To Novato Knicks Championship

Coming off their third consecutive Bay Valley Conference Championship, some players would take the summer off to rest and recuperate. Not the case for several Mariners.

Many current and former College of Marin Baseball players continued to hone their baseball craft during the summer months.  The Novato Knicks, a team comprised of primarily College of Marin and Sonoma State baseball players did more than that. They won a pair of titles. Members of the 2015 Sacramento Rural League, the Knicks finished the season with the best regular season record and won the league tournament as well.

Mariners shortshop Matthew Tarantino drove in the tying and go ahead runs in the ninth inning of the finals against AB Baseball of San Jose.  The Novato Knicks held on for a thrilling 9-8 win and playoff title. Earlier in the day the Knicks were victorious in the semifinal game against the Fairfield Indians 8-4. Michael Heinevetter was 4 for 5 with a pair of RBI to lead team to a victory.

Key members of the Novato Knicks that will return to College of Marin baseball team in the fall include Chris Hayman, Tyler Torres, and Matthew Tarantino. Other members of the 2015 Bay Valley Championship team were Steven Baker, Michael Heinevetter, Adam Inouye and Sterling Champagne. Thomas Patterson, Jared English, Adam Manzer, and Bryan Bostjancic are also College of Marin baseball alumni who also competed for the Knicks.

The College of Marin Baseball team is looking for an unprecedented fourth consecutive Bay Valley Conference Title in the spring.
