College of Marin Unloads On Yuba in 13-5 Win

The Mariners scored early and often on Thursday against Yuba College in Kentfield as they had a two six-run innings and cruised to a big victory. In contrast to the 3-1 victory in extra innings at Yuba on Tuesday, College of Marin left little doubt with a 12-2 lead after three innings. Eric Smith picked up the win for COM, while Ryan Schalch had a booming three run homer.

Yuba College scored a pair in the top of the first inning. A leadoff double followed by a single plated the first run. The second came around on a strikeout and a caught stealing.

The Mariners answered in quickly in the bottom half as Chris Hayman led off with a double and Marcus Chiu walked. Matt Tarantino lined an RBI single to score a run before Schalch unloaded with a three run bomb to left.  The team plated a pair more in the inning as Jakob Davidson singled and Jaymes Potts doubled. Brad Bussey grounded out scoring a run, and with two outs Donovan Buechs singled to drive in the sixth run of the inning. After Smith dispatched of Yuba in the second and third innings the Mariners' offense struck again in the bottom of the third.

College of Marin loaded the bases with no outs to open the inning. Paul O'Sullivan reached on a fielder's choice, scoring a run. Buechs walked to reload the bases before consecutive run scoring walks to Hayman and Chiu pushing the score to 9-2.  With two outs Schalch reached on an error plating another run before Davidson singled in the Mariners 11th and 12th runs of the game.

The remainder of the game was merely academic as Smith was pulled after the fifth inning. He allowed single runs in the fourth and fifth innings before being replaced in the top of the sixth by Chris Norman who allowed a single run in two innings. The Mariners scored their 13th run in the 8th inning on a wild pitch.

With a final score of 13-5 there were plenty of offensive heroes for College of Marin. Schalch had three RBI from his home run. Jakob Davidson had three hits, two RBI and two runs scored while Chris Hayman had two hits two runs scored and an RBI. Smith picked up his second win of the season striking out five in five innings.

The Mariners' pushed their record to 9-5 overall and 2-0 in conference play. They face at Folsom Lake at noon on Saturday, March 5th
