Strong Day At Plate & On the Mound For Marin in Victory

Kentfield, CA—It was a warm overcast day on Tuesday when the Mariners and Comets met each other for the third time this year. With the season series tied at one a piece both teams were looking to come out with a victory.

Eric Smith was on the bump for the Mariners, making his tenth start on the season. After giving up a leadoff double and a full count walk Smith found himself in a bit of a jam to start off the game, but a runner caught stealing, his first strike out, and a grounder left a runner stranded on third to close the top of the first.

The Marin bats would not leave opportunity on the table, however. In the bottom half of the inning the Mariners saw eight straight balls to put Chris Hayman and Jaymes Potts aboard. After a deep fly ball from Matt Tarantino both runners tagged up and moved into scoring position for the team, and Bay Valley Conference, leader in Runs Batted In, Ryan Schalch. Schalch delivered with a line drive into center field to put Marin on the board, 2-0.

E. Smith, with a two run lead, promptly struck out the side, 1-2-3. With Smith dealing and the Marin bats active, the Mariners found themselves in a groove. Plating 2 runs in the third, to make it 4-0, and added two more in the fourth.

After Contra Costa was able to plate 3 runs in the top of the fifth, to cut the Mariners lead in half, 6-3. Marin responded with a big inning of their own. The Mariners added 4 more runs, two of which came in on Tyler Torres' line drive up the middle. Making the game 10-3

Eric Smith exited the game after 6 innings of work and striking out 9 batters, putting him one off of Cooper Casad's team high 55. With the win, Smith moves to 5-1 on the year—most wins on the team.

Chris Moreno and Nick Bostow finished out the game on the mound for Marin and secured the victory, a 12-5 final.
