College of Marin Pulls Out Dramatic 11 Inning Win At DVC 6-4

As the calendar turned over to a new week, so did the fortunes of College of Marin Baseball. After losing four consecutive heartbreakers in the previous week, Marin did some heart breaking of their own as they staged a late comeback to force extra innings and grabbed the road win with two more in the 11th inning at Diablo Valley College on Wednesday.

Marcus Chiu drove in Dominic Burke, who doubled to lead off the top of the 11th to give Marin a 5-4 lead, before MacLean Meyn's sacrifice fly plated Chiu for Marin's sixth run of the game. Jason Wutsch retired the side in order to preserve the win for himself and his team as the Mariners broke a four game losing streak.

The Mariners got on the board early as Jacob Kimbrough hit a sack fly to drive in Meyn in the top of the second inning. Diablo Valley College responded in the bottom half of the third with three runs of their own via an RBI triple, RBI groundout and an error to take a 3-1. Lead. The home team tacked on another run in the bottom of the fifth with a bases loaded walk as Marin trailed 4-1 heading into the top of the sixth inning

Recent games have seen Marin's offense lie dormant in the latter innings, however this affliction was not the case on Wednesday. Marin worked the bases loaded with nobody out before Pete Armusewicz earned a walk to cut the score to 4-2. It was a golden opportunity to add more runs, but a strikeout and double play ended the threat.

Patience proved valuable yet again for Marin again in the top of the seventh as a pair of walks and a single loaded the bases with no outs. Jakob Davidson and Chiu each recorded RBI groundouts to tie the game at 4-4.

Chase Gardner started the game for the Mariners and wobbled through 4.1 innings before being relieved by Bret Bowyer in the middle of the fifth. Bowyer proceeded to keep Marin on track through the ninth inning where he escaped as the potential winning run reached second with just one out. Wutsch relieved Bowyer in the tenth inning and retired all six batters he faced for the win as Marin scored two in the 11th to take the 6-4 victory.

The heart of the order was the key for Marin as the 3-5 hitters were 9 for 17 with four RBI and three runs scored. Chiu, Davidson and Meyn each had three hits and scored a run.
