COM Baseball Drops 10 Inning Thriller to Solano College 5-4

Three games in three days proved to be a bit too much for the Mariners as they fell in 10 innings at Solano College on Thursday. Marin tied the game in the top of the ninth inning and had a chance to go ahead in the top of the 10th but were denied.  In the bottom half Solano put runners on the corners with two outs before a wild pitch ended the game in dramatic walk off fashion, 5-4 in Solano's favor.

After a scoreless first inning the Mariners broke the deadlock in the top of the second inning. With one out Marin's Adam Hussain singled and stole second. Walks to Jake Munoz and James Harwell loaded the bases for Nick Heimbrodt who singled to drive in Hussain, while Munoz was thrown out at the plate. Dominic Burke followed with a single to double the Mariners advantage before Marcus Chiu struck out to end the threat.

Solano pulled a run back in the bottom of the third as Kenney Quilatan led off with a home run. The score remained 2-1 in favor of Marin until the top of the fifth where Marcus Chiu rapped a one out single and scored on a double by Jakob Davidson. Marin maintained their 3-1 lead until the bottom of the sixth inning.

A walk, followed by a wild throwing error scored Solano's second run of the game before a double by Andrew Flores tied the score up at 3-3. A ground out and a sacrifice fly put Solano up by one 4-3.

The Mariners bats remained silent until the top of the ninth inning as James Harwell led off with a double. A sac bunt advanced him to third and he came around to score on a deep fly ball by Dominic Burke. Solano went down in order in their half of the ninth inning to put the game into extra innings.

Marin put two on with two outs in the top half of the tenth inning but Jakob Davidson was thrown out at the plate trying to score from second on a mishandled ball by the Solano second baseman. In the bottom half of the inning Roberto Diaz singled with one out and reached third with two away. After a hit by pitch put runners on first and third, an errant pitch skipped away and allowed Diaz to come home with the winning run.

It was a wild end to an exciting game, but unfortunately the Mariners ended up on the wrong side of the score line.

Dominic Burke had a pair of hits and a pair of RBI and James Harwell scored a run and reached base four times in the loss. Chris Allen started for the Mariners and threw five effective innings allowing four runs (two earned) with one walk and three strikeouts. Bret Bowyer had three scoreless innings of relief, while Seth Wedewer finished the game and was the tough luck loser.

Marin has a day to rest before hosting Laney College in Kentfield on Saturday, March 11th
