College of Marin Baseball's Eventful June

The month of June was an exciting month so far for members of the 2017 College of Marin Baseball team. On June 1st, the 2017 ABCA/Rawlings All-American team was announced and Marcus Chiu received 2nd Team Infield honors and Chase Gardner earned 3rd team Pitcher honors. They joined Ryan Schalch (2016 2nd team, 2015 1st Team), Ben Herrick (2013 1st Team), and Tyler Ihrig (2013 1st Team) as past winners of the award.

On June 14th Marcus Chiu was drafted in the 2017 Major League Baseball Amateur draft. He was selected by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 15th round and the 460th pick. He joined Alec Kenilvort (2014 15th round Rockies), Tyler Ihrig (2013 23rd round Cubs), Will White (2013 19th round Marlins), Cory Bostjancic (2012 15th round Padres), Patrick Conroy (2012 32nd round Royals), Rick Hughes (2010 29th round Nationals), Fred Atkins (2008 45th round Twins), and Terrence Taylor (2001 44th round Twins) who were selected in the MLB draft under current Head Coach Steve Berringer.

On June 21st the 2017 ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove Team was announced and Christian Rudkin won the award for top defensive pitcher. Christian had a perfect fielding percentage over the two years at College of Marin. During the 2017 season he only allowed 2 base runners to successfully steal a base against him in 70 innings pitched. The big right-handed pitcher also managed to pickoff 6 runners during the 2017 season which brought his career total to 16 pickoffs. Christian joins Tommy Berizhoff (2014 Catcher) and Rick Hughes (2009 Outfielder) as the only Mariners who have won this prestigious award.
