Mariners Score Early, Down Diablo Valley 8-4

Marin did not take long to bounce back from a tough loss at Folsom Lake on Friday afternoon. The Mariners got after the visiting Vikings on Saturday and executed a complete game in route to an 8-4 victory. Chris Allen pitched effectively into the seventh inning while Jake MunozShane DaltonDominic Burke and Davis Barkocy each had multi-hit games to lead Marin to a victory.

Diablo Valley took an early lead with a double and RBI single the top of the first, but the Mariners immediately responded in the bottom half. Christian Merriwether and Jake Munoz led off with singles and moved to second and third on a passed ball. Alex Davis singled to center scoring one, while the second run came around on a fielding error to give Marin a 2-1 lead after one inning played.

Following a scoreless second, Marin found pay dirt again in the bottom of the third. Munoz walked and stole second, Alex Davis walked and following a double steal, Shane Dalton delivered a two run double. Burke followed with an RBI single and Davis Barkocy followed with an RBI triple to extend the Marin advantage to 6-1.

DVC scored single runs in the fourth and fifth but they did not truly threaten the Marin lead. The Mariners responded with single runs of their own in the fifth and sixth innings and from there cruised to an easy 8-4 win.

Allen pitched six and two thirds innings allowing six hits and three runs while striking out a sextet of Vikings. Nick Roth relieved him in the seventh and pitched two and third innings of his own, allowing a single run and recording four strikeouts while earning the save for Marin.

Allen recorded his second victory of the season while Roth got his first save of the year. It was a balanced offensive effort but Jake Munoz led the team with three hits, while scoring twice and swiping two bases. Dalton had two hits and two RBI, Burke recorded two hits and two RBI of his own while Barkocy also contributed a pair of run scoring hits.

Marin is 3-2 after their first five games of competition, they face American River College on Tuesday before a three game weekend series at College of Sequoias.
