Mariners' baseball enjoyed a fruitful Tuesday at American River College. Marin scored in the first seven innings leading to a 13-6 rout of the Beavers. Adam Hussain and Jake Munoz had big days at the plate, while Dominic Burke was very effective on the mound, earning his first win of the season. Marin ran rampant against the ARC defense as the Mariners swiped seven bases on the day.
Jake Munoz was the spark for Marin in the top of the first as he walked with one out, stole second and advanced to third on an error. Adam Hussain's sacrifice fly plated Munoz for an early 1-0 Marin lead. American River answered back in the bottom half as they led off the inning with consecutive singles. A sacrifice fly tied the game, and an RBI double plated a second, but Mariners starter Dominic Burke wiggled out of the trouble by getting a pair of groundouts to end the threat. Owen Hamilton doubled for Marin to start the second and came around to score on a sac fly off the bat of Randy Fernandez to tie the game at 2-2. After that point, the game was all Marin.
The Mariners scored four in the top of the third to take the lead for good. James Harwell had an RBI double, Jonathan Chu had a sacrifice fly and Munoz a two run double. In the fourth Marin plated another on a double steal with an error. They added three more in the fifth courtesy of a wild pitch and two run double by Hussain. Two runs in the top of the sixth came from an RBI single and a passed ball while the lone run in the seventh came from a fielding error.
The Mariners led 13-2 heading into the seventh inning stretch. American River managed to score four times in the bottom half but it was merely a dent in the final score line.
Hussain was two for three with two walks, three RBI, two stolen bases and two runs scored. Munoz had a hit two walks, two RBI, a stolen base and two runs of his own.
Burke threw six innings allowing four hits and two runs while striking out three batters. He was followed by Michael Benz, Jack Hill and Leffert Lefferts III to complete the game. The Mariners record is 4-2 with a three game road trip at College of Sequoias on deck for this week. They play in Visalia Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
