Mariners Baseball Downs Lassen Cougars 7-4

The Mariners felt right at home on Thursday, as they defeated the Lassen College Cougars 7-4 in a game played at the University of San Francisco. USF commit Jake Munoz warmed to his future surroundings with a pair of RBIs while Jack Hill sparkled in relief to earn the victory. The win pushed Marin's record to 6-4 as the team nears the end of their non-conference schedule.

It was a wild one to start as Lassen loaded the bases with one out on a walk, single and error. Luke Smith lined a single to score two and give the Cougars a 2-0 lead. Marin did not wait around to answer back as they scored just three batters into the game.

Christian Merriwether led off with a single and scored on a one out double by Alex Davis. Adam Hussain followed with a walk and Dominic Burke singled to load the bases.

James Harwell reached on an error that tied the game at 2-2 and kept the bases loaded. Owen Hamilton put Marin on top with a sacrifice fly before Shane Dalton walked to reload the bases for a third time. Randy Fernandez drew a bases loaded walk before a throwing error by the Lassen pitcher allowed the fifth Marin run to come to the plate. When the dust settled the Mariners held a 5-2 advantage with one inning in the books.

Lassen pulled one back in the top of the second as they coupled a two out double with an RBI single to cut the lead to 5-3. The score remained as such until the bottom of the sixth when Munoz lined a two run single, scoring Fernandez and Dalton for a 7-3 Mariners lead. Lassen added a fourth run in the top of the ninth but were denied any more as the Mariners emerged with the 7-4 win.

Jason Wutsch started for the Mariners and threw four innings while allowing three runs on seven hits. Jack Hill took over in the fifth and pitched five innings allowing just one run and five hits in the process. Davis Had two hits a run and an RBI while Munoz had two hits and two RBI for the Mariners.

Next up is a game against Feather River College at USF on Friday, February 16th.
