Davis and Harwell Lead Mariners Past Solano Falcons In 12-3 Rout

The Mariners delivered their second excellent performance in three days on Thursday. They blitzed the Solano College Falcons from the fourth inning on to earn their second straight win over a conference opponent. Alex Davis and James Harwell each had four hits on the afternoon while starting pitcher Jason Wutsch threw six shutout innings in the Mariners 12-3.

Neither team could muster much through the first three innings of competition, but that all changed in the top of the fourth inning. The Mariners put two on with two out before James Harwell lined an RBI single to plate MacLean Meyn for a 1-0 lead. Dominic Burke followed with a two run single of his own to give the Mariners an early 3-0 lead.

Marin extended their lead to 5-0 in the sixth as Adam Hussain walked, Harwell doubled and Davis Barkocy drove in one with an RBI single. With Christian Merriwether up, Barkocy stole second and in the commotion, Harwell came home on an errant pitch. The pushed the lead to 7-0 in the seventh as Harwell had an RBI single and Meyn scored on a wild pitch.

The Mariners put away the game for good and opened up a double digit lead in the eighth as the Mariners loaded the bases with nobody out. Alex Davis cleared the bases with a booming double to put Marin up 10-0. With one away and runners on the corners, Harwell singled to plate Davis and Burke followed with a single of his own to drive home Adam Hussain and give Marin a dozen runs on the day.

Solano scored three in the bottom of the ninth, but it did little to dampen the spirits of the Mariners and their 12-3 win.

Jason Wutsch started on the hill and allowed just six bases runners in as many innings. He yielded three hits and three walks while striking out four in six shutout frames. Michael Benz relieved him and threw two scoreless innings before Jack Hill and Cody McGunagle finished off Solano in the ninth inning.

James Harwell was four for five with a double, three RBI and two runs on the day. Davis posted similar numbers, four hits in five at bats, two doubles, three RBI and two runs scored. Dominic Burke did well with two hits and three RBI on the afternoon.

The Mariners look to complete a three game sweep of Bay Valley opponents on Saturday at Laney College.
