Mariners Crush Contra Costa Comets 13-2

College of Marin continued their excellent run of play with a 13-2 thumping of Contra Costa on Monday in San Pablo. Rain forced a reschedule but the delay did not dampen the Mariners bats as they scored in seven consecutive innings for their fifth straight win in which they scored 10 or more runs. Dominic Burke started on the mound and hurled a very efficient seven innings, allowing just a single run. Adam Hussain led the Marin offense with three hits and four RBIs on the day.

After a scoreless first inning the Mariners scored in the top of the second. The Mariners put two on with two out when Christian Merriwether singled to drive in James Harwell for a 1-0 lead. Contra Costa responded in kind in the bottom half. The Comets put runners on second and third with one out when Tyler Brown lifted a fly ball to left which plated the tying run.

The Mariners last sight of a tie was in the top of the third as they loaded the bases with one out on a walk, error and hit by pitch. Hussain delivered a bases clearing double to give Marin a three run lead 4-1. College of Marin added single runs in the fourth and fifth while Dominic Burke shut down the Comets through fifth.

Marin added another trio of runs in the sixth to take a 9-1 lead. MacLean Meyn had an RBI hit by pitch with the bases loaded and Hussain and Harwell each followed with a bases loaded walk. In the seventh the Mariners scored three against with RBIs from Jake Munoz, Alex Davis and Meyn. The eighth saw Marin tack on their 13th run of the game on an error by Contra Costa.

Dominic Burke pitched through the seventh inning and allowed just one run on four hits. Jared Robison relieved him in the bottom of the eighth and finished off the game allowing one run and four hits.

Meyn, Harwell and Hussain all had multiple RBIs on the day while Randy Fernandez, Munoz, Davis, Will Langan and Merriwether each scored twice. The Mariners had plenty of base runners as they recorded 10 hits, eight walks and four hit by pitches.

It's a short turnaround for Marin as they travel to Yuba to face the 49ers on Tuesday, March 20th with first pitch scheduled for 12:30pm.
