Mariners Sweep Napa With 7-6 Victory, Extend Winning Streak to 12

Friday was the conclusion of a six game in eight day stretch for Mariners' Baseball. It was a kitchen sink effort as six different pitchers took the hill as Marin looked to continue its winning ways. In the end, the staff effort got it done as Marin finished off their season series against Napa with a 7-6 victory. Marin had a large lead early but Napa rallied to tie the game before an eighth inning rally earned the victory for the Mariners.

Marin broke the deadlock early as Shane Dalton led off by reaching on an error. Jake Munoz walked and Alex Davis followed with a run scoring single to put Marin up 1-0. An error off the bat of MacLean Meyn scored Munoz to double the advantage. Adam Hussain singled to load the bases and James Harwell drove in two more with a single of his own. The Mariners collected four runs on three hits and were helped by four Napa errors in the first inning.

Marin added on in the second as Munoz doubled and Davis walked with two outs. Meyn walked to load the bases for Hussain who singled to score Munoz and Davis for a 6-0 Mariners lead.

Cody McGunagle started on the hill for Marin and pitched a scoreless first two innings. He loaded the bases with one out in the top of the third, but allowed just one run on a sacrifice fly.

Will Zurcher relieved McGunagle to start the fourth and pitched a scoreless fourth and fifth innings. He yielded just one run in the sixth on a pair of singles and a double. The Mariners failed to score in the bottom of the sixth and Ryan Moyer hurled a scoreless seventh for Marin.

Marin ran into some trouble in the top of the eighth. Napa loaded the bases against Jared Robison with one out. A balk scored a run to make it 6-3 and an RBI single brought it to 6-4. A fielder's choice scored another for Napa before a double, walk and single tied the game up at 6-6.

The Mariners responded in the bottom half of the inning as Dominic Burke led off with a single. Randy Fernandez hit a sacrifice bunt to advance Burke. He scored with two outs on a single by Jake Munoz to retake the lead 7-6.

Nick Roth took over in the ninth and recorded a 1-2-3 inning for his 10th save of the season.

Hussain had three hits and two RBI on the day while Jake Munoz scored twice and drove in the game winning run in the eighth.

McGunagle and Zurcher each pitched three innings and allowed just one run apiece. Moyer, Robison, Michael Benz and Roth combined to pitch the final three innings of the game.

The Mariners record sits at 20-7 including a perfect 9-0 in Bay Valley Conference play. They have a weekend off before they begin a series at Mendocino College on Tuesday, April 3rd
