When is a home game a road game? It is when played at the opponent's field. Such was the case for the Mariners who "hosted" Laney College at Laney on Tuesday. The venue did not matter much to Marin as Chris Allen was sensational as he allowed just a single and walk in a complete game shutout of the Eagles. Adam Hussain had another big game at the plate with three RBI and MacLean Meyn scored four times on the afternoon.
The first batter of the game reached on a single for Laney College before Allen retired the next three batters. From that point on, Allen did not allow another runner until the eighth inning, a leadoff walk. He was retired on a fielder's choice and a double play to end the inning.
On the offensive side of the equation, the Mariners scored early and scored often, bringing runs across in every inning save the first and sixth.
MacLean Meyn scored the first run of the game as he walked to lead off the second, moved to second on a single and third on a wild pitch. He came around to score on a single by Dominic Burke. Marin tripled their advantage in the third as Christian Merriwether singled and stole second to leadoff. With two outs Meyn walked and the pair came around to score on an Adam Hussain double for a 3-0 Mariners lead.
Shane Dalton led off the fourth with a walk and came around to score on a single by Jake Munoz with two down for a 4-0 Marin lead. Hussain doubled in Meyn in the fifth for a 5-0 lead and after failing to score in the sixth the Mariners got back on the horse in the seventh inning.
Jake Munoz led off with a single and stole second, he moved to third on a ground out and scored on Meyn's RBI single. Meyn proceeded to steal second, moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on a ground out by James Harwell. The Mariners did an excellent job of keeping the line moving and manufacturing runs throughout the game.
The eighth inning was much of the same for Marin. With one away Will Langan singled and moved to second on a single by Merriwether. Munoz walked to load the bases for Davis who singled in Langan. Owen Hamilton followed with a single of his own to score Merriwether and give the Mariners a 9-0 lead.
Allen Cruised throughout the game, with only a first inning single and an eighth inning walk for blemishes. He retired the first two batters in the ninth before blowing away the final batter for a strikeout, his seventh of the day.
The victory was Allen's 10th of the year in 11 starts and it was also his best performance of the season. He faced 28 hitters, just one over the minimum and never had a runner past second base. On the season Allen has 81 strikeouts in 76.2 innings and has allowed just eight earned runs good for an ERA of 0.94.
Adam Hussain had three hits, including two doubles and three RBI on the day while Christian Merriwether had three runs, scored twice and tallied a stolen base.
