College of Marin Baseball scored early and scored often to move closer to a Bay Valley Conference Title. The 16-3 victory over second place Los Medanos College put the Mariners a single win away from clinching the conference. Chris Allen earned his 12th victory of the year with eight effective innings while the offense tallied 19 hits and six walks in their sizable win.
Allen retired the Mustangs in the top of the first and the Mariners got to work on the offensive end in the bottom half. They loaded the bases with one out and Adam Hussain drew first blood with an RBI single. MacLean Meyn grounded out to score a second run. A wild pitch scored a third, before Davis Barkocy drove in two more with a double to give Marin a 5-0 lead after the first inning of play.
Los Medanos scored one in the top of the second with a one out RBI single to cut the Marin lead to 5-1. Marin responded in the bottom of the third as Adam Hussain walked and Barkocy reached on an error with two outs. Randy Fernandez doubled in both runners for a 7-1 lead after three innings.
Allen continued to exert his dominance over the Mustangs through the seventh inning, allowing just a walk and a single over that span. In the meantime, the Mariners added single runs in the fourth and fifth innings, before piling on even more in the sixth inning.
Meyn tripled to lead off the sixth and scored on an RBI single by Dominic Burke. With one out Randy Fernandez walked and Jake Munoz followed with a two run double to increase the Mariners' lead to 12-1. LMC scored two in the eighth off of Allen on a pair of doubles and a single, but the large Mariners' advantage remained.
The Mariners extended their lead further in the bottom of the eighth as James Harwell and Christian Merriwether reached with two outs. An error off the bat of Alex Davis scored one and RBI hits from Hussain, Owen Hamilton and Burke followed to plate four runs in the inning and cap the Mariners output at 16 on the day.
Will Zurcher relieved Allen in the ninth and retired the Mustangs in order to finish out the game.
Allen earned his 12th win of the year despite allowing a season high three runs and season high eight hits in the game. Harwell led the Mariners' charge with four hits and three runs scored. Hussain had three hits, three runs and three RBIs while Munoz had three hits a run and two runs batted in.
The Mariners improved their record to 26-11 overall and 15-4 in Bay Valley Conference play. They sit two games ahead of Los Medanos and can clinch the title with one victory in their final two games.
They travel to Pittsburg to face the Mustangs on Thursday at 2:30PM.
