Chris Allen Named February Men’s Mariner of the Month

Mariners’ lefty Chris Allen turned in a very impressive performance in February, earning him the Men’s Athlete of the Month for College of Marin Athletics. The sophomore pitcher made four starts in February and earned four victories for the Mariners in those appearances.

On February 3rd against the Diablo Valley College Vikings Allen threw six and two thirds innings. He struck out six while allowing three runs. The Mariners complimented him with eight runs and Allen earned the victory in the Mariners fifth game of the season.

Allen made his second start of the month at College of Sequoias on February 10th. On the heels of two consecutive losses against the Giants, Allen was the stopper, hurling 7.1 innings of one run ball, with ten strikeouts. Tied at one entering the eighth inning, the Mariners took the lead, helping Allen get his second victory of the month.

Allen turned in another excellent performance just six days later with seven innings against Feather River College. He allowed four hits and one unearned run while striking out ten. Marin scored four runs early in the game and Allen’s pitching carried them to a 4-1 victory.

His final appearance of the month took place on February 24th at the College of San Mateo. Allen struck out eight Bulldogs in six and a third innings, while allowing just one run and eight hits. The Mariners scored all three of their runs in the seventh inning which was enough to give Allen his fourth victory of the month.

He had a record of 4-0 in February in four starts. He allowed six runs, five earned in 27.1 innings, good for an ERA of 1.65. He allowed 19 hits and nine walks against 34 strikeouts in the month.

As of March 15th Allen is leading the state in wins and strikeouts.
