Cooper Casad was a standout pitcher for two years at College of Marin, and followed with two excellent years at University of the Pacific. Now he has a professional contract to his name. The 22-year-old Casad recently signed with the San Francisco Giants organization and is currently assigned to their Rookie League squad in Arizona.

Casad was a member of the Mariners’ Baseball Team for the 2015 and 2016 seasons. In his freshman year, Casad was a key member of the Mariners’ bullpen with a 3.26 ERA in 49.2 innings pitched. He struck out 34 and walked just 16 as Marin tied for the Bay Valley Conference Title.

Casad impressed further in his sophomore season as he split time as a starter and long reliever. He posted an ERA of 3.24 in 91.2 innings on the mound with a 9-4 record in 18 appearances, 10 starts. He yielded just 33 earned runs while striking out 79 and walking only 13 batters over the course of the year. In the playoffs he earned the victory in a sparkling seven inning performance against Cosumnes River College in the Mariners 6-3 victory.  

After two years in Marin, Casad transferred to University of the Pacific in Stockton where he appeared in 37 games over two seasons. He posted totals of 132.1 innings, and 79 strikeouts with a 4.62 ERA in Division I Baseball.

Casad was undrafted in the 2018 MLB draft, but within weeks he received a call from the San Francisco Giants and was offered a professional contract.

He recently made his debut for the Giants Black Team of the Arizona Rookie League. In two appearances, Casad allowed two runs, and five hits while striking out three across one inning pitched.

The Petaluma native has had an excellent baseball career at the collegiate level, and is taking the first steps in professional baseball.
