Mariners’ Pitcher Chris Allen Drafted By Chicago Cubs

College of Marin Mariners' pitcher Chris Allen was selected in the 20th round in the MLB Draft by the Chicago Cubs on Wednesday. The Terra Linda product was magnificent in his Sophomore season for the Mariners with a perfect 13-0 record in 14 starts on the season. Allen’s season set several records for College of Marin Baseball, including both wins and ERA

Allen posted a 1.34 ERA in 100.2 innings with 102 strikeouts on the season. He had back to back complete game shutouts against Laney College and Solano College in April while combined to strikeout 15 and allow just three hits and two walks in those two games.

He led the Mariners’ to their lone playoff victory as he threw seven innings against the College of San Mateo Bulldogs and allowed four runs in the Mariners 18-4 win.

After the season, Allen filled up his trophy case with post season awards. He earned Bay Valley Conference Pitcher of the Year, he was a member of the ABCA Nor-Cal All-Region First Team, earned an All-State Selection and grabbed a place on the Pacific Association All-America First Team.

Allen committed to play baseball at the University of Hawaii Manoa prior to his selection in the MLB Draft. The 608th overall selection is expected to sign with the Chicago Cubs and begin his professional career this summer with the Arizona League Cubs.
