Mariners Drop Game Two Of Folsom Lake Double Header 8-3

An early pitchers duel gave way to a rain shortened blowout as Marin trailed 8-0 before scoring three times in the seventh, the final frame of the game. Marin had runners on and nobody out in the seventh but the weather preventing them from continuing to play.  Cody McGunagle started for the Mariners and was excellent through the opening third of game, but he ran into trouble in the fourth when Folsom's bats awoke. The Mariners struggled offensively throughout and only managed the breakthrough late in the game.

Marin had individual runners on in the first and third innings but were unable to push them across. McGunagle retired the side in order in the first before allowing two on with nobody out in the second. He goaded two groundouts and a flyout to end the threat. One Falcon reached base in the third, but was ultimately stranded as well.

Marin put a runner on second with one down in the top of the fourth, but two strikeouts ended the Mariners' threat. In the bottom half, Folsom's offense awoke.

Folsom Lake's Schroder led off and launched a ball deep over the fence for a home run and a 1-0 lead for the Falcons. The next two hitter reached on a walk and a single before a fielding error plated a run. An infield sacrifice scored another for Folsom and a two out triple brought in their fourth run. Trujillo relieved McGunagle and allowed a walk and hit by pitch to load the bases. Schroder back at the plate for the second time in the inning laced doubled scoring two more and putting Folsom Lake up 6-0.

Marin was shut out in the fifth and sixth innings while Folsom Lake added single runs in each from a pair of RBI singles. Trailing 8-0 the Mariners made a bit of noise in their final frame as Randy Fernandez led off the seventh with a double. Will Langan pinch hit and drove in Fernandez with a single. A wild pitch and a walk put two on with nobody out. Jacob Berg singled to drive in Langan and Casey Armusewicz singled to score Oscar Urbina and bring Marin within striking distance at 8-3. Marin had two on and nobody out, but at that point the heavens opened and rained out Marin's chances at a comeback.

Marin scored six hits and five walks throughout the game. Fernandez, Pomilia and Barkocy each had doubles for the Mariners. McGunagle took the loss yielding six runs, four earned in 3.2 innings on the mound. Trujillo allowed a run in 1.1 innings and Eric Woodrow had two strikeouts and allowed a run n the final frame.

The Mariners record sits at 2-4 after dropping both halves of the doubleheader. Marin has a busy week ahead with a road game at Santa Rosa on Tuesday, before traveling to Visalia for three games against College of Sequoias Thursday-Saturday, February 7th-9th.
