Mariners Shutout By College of San Mateo Bulldogs 6-0

College of Marin Baseball was stifled on the road Tuesday by the College of San Mateo Bulldogs. The Mariners managed just nine base runners in a 6-0 loss. San Mateo scored in five separate innings while College of Marin put multiple runners on in just two separate innings. Nick Roth started for Marin and pitched the first six innings while Michael Benz hurdled the final two.

The Mariners went down in order to start the game, but the home team did not. San Mateo's Ota doubled with one away and scored on a two out single for a 1-0 lead.

Randy Fernandez hit a one out double in the second and moved to third on a two out single but a groundout ended the inning.  In the bottom half a leadoff triple and groundout score the Bulldog's second run of the game.

This sequence repeated itself several more times. Marin went down in order in the third and fourth, while San Mateo scored two more in the fourth on a solo home run and a two out RBI single.

Marin's Landen Moran doubled with two away in the sixth but failed to score. In the bottom half Christain Ontai hit a solo shot to right for a 5-0 San Mateo lead.  Anthony Flores added a homer of his own in the seventh to complete the scoring on the day.

The Mariners' best chance to score occurred in the top of the ninth as Anthony Pomilia and Moran singled to lead off the inning. Casey Armusewicz flew out but Randy Fernandez was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Conor Bardue stepped to the plate and hit into a double play to end the game.

Roth struck out seven Bulldogs but yielded five runs and 12 hits in six innings on the mound. Michael Benz struck out two and walked one while giving up two hits and a run in two innings. Sean Prozell threw seven shutout innings for San Mateo, striking out a quintet of Mariners.

Moran had a double and a single for Marin while Fernandez had a double a drew a hit by pitch. Ontai had a home run and two RBI for San Mateo.

Marin has a chance for vengeance on Thursday, February 21st, as they travel back to San Mateo to face the Bulldogs at 2pm.
