Baseball Dive Bombed By Laney College Eagles 13-2

Tuesday's series opener against Laney College was not good for Mariners' Baseball. They were out played in all three facets of the game as they allowed 13 runs, while scoring just two and committed five errors as well. It was forgettable for most but Will Langan and Anthony Pomilia did each collect a pair of hits as the Mariners fell 13-2.

Laney scored one in the bottom of the first, but Mariners' starter limited the damage through the first two innings. Offensively Marin could not muster much offense against Laney's Ricardo Hernandez, as he limited them to just two hits in the first three innings.

The Eagles bats came alive in the bottom of the third, helped by the Mariners' gloves. The home team scored five times in the inning with only three hits as Marin committed two errors that led to two unearned runs.

After failing to score in the top of the fourth, more errors helped Laney add another two runs in the fourth to take an 8-0 lead. The fun was just beginning for Laney, even after they drove White from the game after the fourth. Laney added another run in the fifth, two more in the sixth and single runs in the seventh and eighth to push they tally for the day to 13.

The Mariners' made their only noise in the seventh as they loaded the bases with nobody out. A double play scored a run and a Dionathan Cornet double added a second, but it was far too little and too late to affect the outcome of the game.

Hernandez was sensational for Laney, as he allowed just two unearned runs and six hits while striking out 11. On offense, Jerry Gaitan had two hits including a homerun and four RBIs on the day.

Pomilia had two hits and a stolen base for the Mariners, Cornet had a double and an RBI, while Langan had two hits as well. White was tagged with the loss, while Cody McGunagle, and Eric Woodrow each pitched in the game.

Marin has just a day to lament the loss as they face the Eagles for the second game of the series on Thursday, March 21st.
