The breeze was not the Mariners' friend on Tuesday. A wind-blown popup gave the visiting LMC Mustangs two early runs, and put the Mariners in a hole they could not dig out of. They fell to Los Medanos 4-1 at home, with their lone run courtesy of Dionathan Cornet's impressive solo blast. Demian White struggled with command but managed to gut it out through 6.1 innings before Jackson Loder and Ryan Moyer finished out the game. The Mariners managed only three hits on the day and scoring opportunities were limited.
The first inning proved to be decisive as White walked the first two Los Medanos batters to begin the game. After a sacrifice bunt pushed both runners into scoring position, White induced a shallow fly ball to left that kept the runners from advancing. He was nearly out of the jam, but a wind-blown popup drifted from foul to fair territory and evaded Mariners' third baseman Anthony Pomilia allowing two runs to score.
The Mariners played catchup the entire way, but their offense sputtered against the Mustangs' Dominic Arias. He kept Marin of balance all afternoon as the home team managed just a walk through the first two innings. The visitors added on the third, with a one out RBI single plating a runner from second for a 3-0.
Issac Woldt led off the third with a double for Marin, but they could not drive him in. After Los Medanos failed to score in the fourth, the Mariners got on the board, courtesy of Cornet. The freshman outfielder displayed his tremendous power with a two out shot to right center. Unfortunately, it was the last offense the Mariners would get in the game. They had single runners in the fifth six and seventh but could not string together the hits to score again.
White did well to settle down and yielded just one more unearned run in the seventh inning. He was replaced by Jackson Loder who pitched two innings in total. Ryan Moyer came on in the ninth and got the final two outs for Marin.
White pitched 6.1 innings and allowed three hits and four runs, but just one earned. Loder retired six opposing hitters with two strikeouts and two walks. Pomilia had a single, Woldt and double and Cornet a home run for the only hits of the game for Marin.
The loss dropped Marin's record to 12-3 in the BVC and shrunk their advantage over Los Medanos to just a half a game. The teams face off next at Los Medanos on Thursday, April 11th at 2:30pm.
