Baseball’s Dionathan Cornet is April Co-Mariner of the Month

Mariners’ outfielder Dionathan Cornet was named Co-Mariner of the Month for April. The freshman was a power threat every time he stepped to the plate and was a key reason the team clinched a postseason berth. Cornet had 51 at bats in 14 games and was a one-man wrecking crew with three homers, three doubles and 11 runs batted in in April. He hit .255 in the month with a .367 on base percentage and slugged .490.

He began his decimation of BVC pitching on April 3rd as he swatted two doubles against Napa Valley College in Marin’s 9-6 victory. He was the Mariners’ offense on April 9th against the Los Medanos College Mustangs. The Mariners fell 4-1 but Cornet provided fireworks with an impressive opposite field home run to right center.

He swatted a double and scored twice in Marin’s 11-6 road loss to the Solano College Falcons on April 16th and followed it up the next day with another booming homer at Yuba College in the Mariners’ 8-7 loss.

Cornet finished out the month on a hot streak with seven hits over his final five games including three multi hit performances. Arguably his most complete game of the year was April 23rd against Los Medanos. Cornet reached base in all four of his plate appearances. He homered, singled and walked twice, while driving in two and scoring twice in Marin’s 9-2 postseason clinching victory.

His final game of the month was unfortunately also the team’s final game of the season. Against Cosumnes River College on April 30th he had a pair of singles, scored a run and stole a base but it was not enough as Marin went down 12-8 in their lone playoff game.

It was a very impressive freshman year for Santos who seemed to improve every week. His 2020 season is sure to be even better than debut season in black and gold.
