Baseball’s Nick Roth is March Co-Mariner of the Month

Mariners’ Pitcher Nick Roth was named Co-Mariner of the Month for March. The Mariners’ starter was magnificent in March with a 3-0 record in four starts with a 0.96 ERA and 29 strikeouts. Marin was 3-1 with Roth on the hill and overall produced a 9-2 record during the month.  

The sophomore opened with a start at Napa Valley College on March 7th. He was almost perfect as he struck out eight over eight shutout innings while allowing only two hits. Roth retired the first 21 hitters he faced before a leadoff single in the top of the eighth inning. He kept the opposition off the board and the Mariners won the game 7-1.

Roth battled in his second start of the month against Mendocino on March 14th. He allowed three runs, two earned in seven innings while striking out seven opposing hitters. The Mariners ended up losing in extra innings but Roth was effective while he was on the hill.

Nick Roth’s next start against the Laney College Eagles on March 21st, saw him throw seven innings and allow just three unearned runs in the Mariners’ 6-3 victory. Roth opened the game with six shutout innings before the Eagles rallied for three runs courtesy of a series of defensive mistakes. Roth earned the win while striking out five and walking four.

He finished off March with a start at Contra Costa where the Mariners throttled the Comets 22-4. Roth struck out nine in six inning and allowed just a run with five hits and two walks.

Overall in Roth’s four starts he threw 28 inning and allowed 18 hits and nine walks. He averaged 9.32 strikeouts per nine innings while giving up just three earned runs. His 2019 season is far from over, but Roth was superb in the month of March.
