Baseball’s Randy Fernandez is February Co-Mariner of the Month

College of Marin shortstop Randy Fernandez was named Co-Mariner of the Month for February. The Sophomore had a standout February, hitting .313 in 32 at bats with five doubles, two home runs and nine RBI to go along with eight runs scored. He stole a base and walked eight times to compile a .452 on base percentage and .656 slugging percentage in 10 games played.

Fernandez's first big game came on February 5th at Santa Rosa Junior College. Though the Mariners fell 8-5, the second-year man was perfect at the plate with three hits in three at bats. He hit two doubles, scored once and walked in his other plate appearance.  

He helped the Mariners secure their first win of the month at College of the Sequoias on February 8th. Fernandez blasted his first career home run and added a double in Marin's 8-1 victory. On the day he had two hits in four at bats, drove in three runs and scored twice.

Fernandez hit his second career homer a few games later at Santa Rosa, as he lifted off in the top of the sixth for a two-run bomb.

At Merced College on February 26th, Fernandez displayed his offensive versatility for the final time in February. The Mariners were victorious 14-10 as he had a hit, two walks, two RBI and two runs scored.

He was very solid defensively during February, as Fernandez made just two errors in 48 total chances for a sparkling .958 fielding percentage.

The sophomore is looking to continue his final season in Black and Gold and help the Mariners to another BVC Championship.
