College of Marin Baseball Clinches Series Win At San Mateo

Mariners' Baseball assured themselves of a series victory over the College of San Mateo Bulldogs on Thursday. After winning the opener on Tuesday in Kentfield, Marin traveled to San Mateo and grabbed an 8-4 road win.  Matt Lozovoy started and earned the win for the Mariners. The top four of Marin's batting order accounted for eight hits, seven runs and four RBIs in the game.

Like Tuesday's game, the Mariners scored early and scored often. They led three batters into the game as Dionathan Cornet blasted a run scoring double and Joey Loveless hit into an RBI fielder's choice to give Marin a 2-0 advantage in the top of the first.

The Bulldogs responded with a run in the bottom of the first off a single, double and another single, but Lozovoy did an admirable job to limit the damage.

Marin continued to pressure San Mateo starter Emilio Flores in the second as Anthony Pomilia and Jacob Berg singled with one out. A wild pitch scored one, before a Joey Loveless double plated two more for the Mariners.

San Mateo worked a bases loaded walk in the bottom of the second, but Lozovoy again limited the damage and kept Marin in the lead at 5-2.

Following a scoreless third inning the Mariners put their stamp on the game in the fourth. They loaded the bases with an error, walk and single before Trent Free hit a smash to shortstop that set off a chain of misplays that cleared the bases for Marin and gave them an 8-2 lead.

Lozovoy pitched into the sixth inning before Nick Kennison came on in relief with one out in the sixth. He allowed a two run homer to Kaipo Haole in the eighth but prevented San Mateo from mounting a true threat to the game. In the ninth the tying run reached the on deck circle but could not come to the plate as Kennison worked around a few runners to seal the win for Marin.

Lozovoy struck out eight and allowed one walk and seven hits in hits 5.1 innings on the mound. Only one of the two runs he allowed was earned. Kennison pitched 3.2 innings and struck out a pair with his lone blemish that two run dinger.

Anthony Pomilia had two hits and scored twice for Marin. Jacob Berg had three hits and scored three runs. Dionathan Cornet had a double, an RBI and scored a run while Joey Loveless had two hits including a double with three RBI and a run scored.

Marin improved their record to 6-8 on the season and saddled the Bulldogs with their third loss of the season. The Mariners look to sweep away San Mateo on Saturday in Kentfield at 12pm.
