Baseball Sweeps San Mateo With 6-0 Shutout

College of Marin Baseball completed a three-game sweep over the College of San Mateo Bulldogs on Saturday. Mariners' pitchers Owen Hamilton and Tyler Shelley combined to shutout the Bulldogs 6-0. Marin scored once in the second, three times in the fourth and twice more in the sixth to grab their seventh win of the season.

College of Marin opened the scoring in the bottom of the second inning as Trent Free singled with one out. Isaac Woldt singled with two down and Reno Nalducci doubled in Free for a 1-0 lead.

Hamilton worked around base runners in the first three innings, but kept San Mateo off the board. He found his stride in the fourth inning as he set down the Bulldogs in order.

Marin loaded the bases with one out in the fourth for Anthony Pomilia. The sophomore shortstop lined a single to right center, plating Eric Woodrow for Marin's second run. Jacob Berg followed with a two-run single to double Marin's advantage to 4-0 after four complete.

Hamilton rolled through the fifth and sixth innings, retiring six of seven batters he faced.

Marin added on in the sixth as Dionathan Cornet delivered a run scoring single and Free plated another with a single two batters later.

Leading 6-0, Hamilton yielded a pair of singles to begin the seventh. He struck out the next batter, and induced a popup before being lifted for Tyler Shelley. The freshman allowed a single to the first batter to load the bases, but got the following hitter to fly out harmlessly to center.

Shelley allowed a one out walk in the eighth but no runs, and set down the side in order to close out game in the ninth.

Hamilton earned the victory, his second of the season, with 6.2 innings of shutout ball. He allowed just one walk and six hits while striking out four Bulldogs. Shelley pitched the final 2.1 innings of the game and allowed just a hit and a walk while striking out a pair.

Nalducci had two doubles on the day and drove in a run. Pomilia had a team leading three hits while Jacob Berg delivered a single, double and two RBIs.

The win pushed Marin's record to 7-8 on the year. They have a week off before traveling to Diablo Valley College to face the Vikings on Friday, February 28th.
